SEND Support
Inclusive Online Learning for Every Learner
At Future Forge Academy, we believe every learner deserves access to an education that recognises their strengths, understands their needs, and enables them to achieve their potential.
As an online learning platform, we provide flexible, engaging, and inclusive educational experiences that support learners wherever they are. Through live online lessons, personalised learning, and close collaboration with families, we aim to remove barriers to learning and create opportunities for every learner to succeed.
We understand that every learner is unique, and our approach reflects this.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Our Inclusive Approach
No two learners learn in exactly the same way.
Our live online learning allows teaching to be adapted to the learner’s pace, level of understanding, interests and preferred ways of working. Instructions can be broken into manageable stages, concepts can be revisited, and learners can be given different ways to explore and demonstrate their understanding.
We aim to create a calm, encouraging environment where learners feel comfortable asking questions, trying new ideas and learning from mistakes.
Our approach focuses on strengths as well as areas where additional support may be needed.
Flexible and Personalised Learning
Depending on the needs of the learner and the programme being delivered, support may include:
- Clearly structured lessons and predictable routines.
- Tasks divided into manageable steps.
- Visual, verbal and practical explanations.
- Opportunities to revisit instructions and key concepts.
- Flexible pacing and appropriate breaks.
- Different ways for learners to communicate their ideas.
- Project choices connected to a learner’s interests.
- Adapted levels of challenge.
- Regular encouragement and constructive feedback.
- Support with confidence, independence and organisation.
Project-Based Learning
Project-based STEM learning gives learners opportunities to explore ideas practically and connect learning to real-world challenges.
Through carefully structured projects, learners can develop knowledge while also strengthening communication, problem-solving, creativity, resilience and independence.
Projects can provide a meaningful reason to engage with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, particularly for learners who may find traditional worksheet-based or subject-isolated approaches difficult to access.
Live Online Support
Live lessons enable learners to interact with an educator, ask questions and receive feedback during the learning process.
The online environment can also provide greater flexibility for learners who experience barriers associated with a traditional classroom setting.
Technology must support the learning experience rather than becoming an additional barrier. Instructions, resources and interactions should therefore remain clear, accessible and age-appropriate.
Working With Families and Professionals
Parents and carers understand their children deeply and are important partners in the learning process.
Where appropriate and agreed, Future Forge Academy may work collaboratively with:
- Parents and carers.
- Schools.
- Local authorities.
- Special educational needs coordinators.
- Alternative provision settings.
- Relevant education professionals.
- Other members of a learner’s existing support network.
Communication should focus on the learner’s strengths, current barriers, engagement, progress and agreed educational priorities.
EHCPs and Individual Learning Plans
Where relevant, learning may be informed by outcomes identified in an Education, Health and Care Plan, Individual Learning Plan or other agreed education plan.
Support should be aligned with the provision Future Forge Academy is genuinely able and commissioned to deliver.
Where requested and appropriate, the academy may provide educational observations or progress information to support collaborative planning and review processes.
Meaningful Progress
Progress looks different for every learner. It may include:
- Developing subject knowledge.
- Completing a project or challenge.
- Communicating an idea more confidently.
- Sustaining attention for longer.
- Increasing independence.
- Using a new strategy.
- Re-engaging with learning.
- Collaborating with another learner.
- Developing resilience when a task is challenging.
- Recognising personal strengths and achievements.
The aim is to provide learning that is purposeful, achievable, appropriately ambitious and responsive to the individual.
